The Classroom Support Committee is responsible for recruiting and training classroom parents from each class
during every school year; coordinating volunteers for school-wide events as
requested by the teachers and the administration; coordinating staff
appreciation programs and activities; providing assistance with cultural
differences in areas such as the celebration of holidays, and otherwise
facilitating communication between classroom teachers and parents.
Current Committee initiatives:
The Classroom Support Committee is working to oversee, support, and formalize the previously informal role of the Classroom Parent (CP), as well as provide support to teachers in other ways. The Committee is also developing a German Teacher Acclimation Manual to help our new teachers from overseas.
About Classroom Parents (CP):
The classroom parent's job is to serve as a point of communication between the teacher and the parents of your child's classmates; recruit parents to serve as chaperones for field trips or to help out with class projects; coordinate parent response to the teacher's special requests for materials or help; organize potlucks or other social events for your class; coordinate class gifts. CPs are encouraged to attend PTO meetings or otherwise stay current on PTO activities on behalf of the class.
The Classroom Support Committee is putting together a Classroom Parent Handbook for teachers and CPs and will provide training and support to the CPs throughout the year. We would like to have at least one parent volunteer to be the CP for his or her child's classroom or for one or all of the specialty teachers. Start thinking now about whether you would like to volunteer to be a classroom parent in the 2009-2010 school year! You will have an opportunity to sign up in the week before school starts.
